Hey there, folks! Have I got some news for you.
I moved into an apartment! A post-college apartment! A big-girl apartment!
And. This week marks the beginning of post-undergraduate life! Ahh! What is happening?!
[to say that I’m excited is a bit of an understatement.]
Yes, I am still located in my beloved city of Pittsburgh; however, I’ve taken it upon myself to embrace my newly formed “adult” life to the fullest. The apartment is so clean. So bright. So perfect. I cannot wait to start making it feel like home.
But this calls for a bit of a celebration, don’tcha think?!
And celebrations cannot happen without the use of some chocolate. It’s just logical, man.
Let me call upon some of my favorite whole foods in order to deliver you a splendid little frozen dessert that’s bound to make your summertime seriously rock. Say “hello” to my Dairy Free Chocolate Banana Ice Cream. This gluten free, vegan, and paleo dessert is filled with enough good-for-you ingredients that you could even enjoy it…for breakfast. Yes, folks! Ice cream for breakfast! It’s the new frontier!
The reason why this Dairy-Free Chocolate Banana Ice Cream takes virtually no time to whip together, as well as why it’s so decadent, is because the base is made with frozen ingredients. Frozen bananas make frozen treats ridiculously creamy without the use of any dairy (Need more proof? Allow me to direct you to this little numba). I love bananas; they’re sweet, full of nutrients, and so gosh-darn delicious. To make this treat even creamier, we’re going to enlist the help of some frozen avocado. Now, I love avocado for it’s unparalleled creaminess and richness. Avocados are also loaded with nutrients and healthy fats, making it the perfect good-for-you Dairy Free Chocolate Banana Ice Cream ingredient!
As for the chocolate, I used a simple cocoa powder. I’d bet that a melted chocolate would make this treat even more rich, so feel free to experiment! I also added some vanilla extract and a wee pinch of salt to maximize and enhance all of the flavors. Yep. This Dairy Free Chocolate Banana Ice Cream requires only FIVE ingredients. This ain’t no dream, reader. This is five ingredients at their very finest!
Now, for the optional (aka. totally not “optional” because, hello, chocolate chips and nut butters) add-ins:
- Need even more chocolate in your life? Add a small handful of mini chocolate chips!
- Feeling nutty? Throw in some chopped nuts!
- Want some protein? Stir in some nut butter!
- Feeling childish? Top it with my out-of-this-world delicious, two-ingredient Peanut Butter Magic Shell! <–that’s what I did!
Make this Dairy Free Chocolate Banana Ice Cream your own! And be sure to leave your adaptations in the comments below!
This Dairy Free Chocolate Banana Ice Cream was a wonderful way to celebrate my newfound adultness, but you don’t need a special occasion to throw together this five ingredient, five minute whole food treat! This ice cream is a wonderful base upon which you can build your summer dessert go-to. Chocolately whole food goodness. It’s simplistic perfection in a decadently creamy package.

I literally just whipped this up in a few mins in my small food processor. Super easy! I didn’t have the frozen avocado or almond, I subbed w a little creamer…I would’ve taken a pic but I couldn’t stop eating it. Thanks for sharing this recipe, it’s my go-to now. Hmmm, I’m thinking how I can make this for breakfast?

So glad you liked this, Sarah! Definitely a good breakfast :)
