Happy Friday!!
We’re exactly ONE WEEK away from the return of Gilmore girls, and I’m personally wondering how I’m going to keep it together until then.
Gilmore girls has been my favorite show for forever. I talked a lot about this here, but I’m just so so excited to see the new episodes.
{have you seen the trailer yet?! i totally cried.}
I have so many hopes for this revival, but I know it won’t let me down. Regardless of what exactly happens in the new episodes, the fact that they’re giving us more Gilmore will make me a very happy camper.
That being said, I do have some questions –
- What is Jess up to? (and please tell me it involves Rory #teamjess)
- Have Luke and Lorelai gotten it together and tied the freakin’ knot yet?
- What are Lane and Zach up to? How are they handling life with twins?
- How is Kirk? How many jobs has he had since we last saw him?
- Is Taylor retiring and, if so, will Kirk take his place?
- Is someone pregnant? (because there was an apple and a baby carriage in one of the teaser posters and omg!)
- What kind of fabulous foods are the Gilmores into at the moment? I’m assuming they didn’t participate in the whole kale/quinoa movement, but perhaps they’re fans of the cronut and/or cold brew?!
Regardless of the foods they’re into now, I remember an episode (season 7, episode 9 to be exact) where Rory was celebrating Lucy’s 21st birthday. Lucy’s boyfriend, Marty, was acting all weird and aloof because he secretly had all of the heart-eyed emojis for Rory. So, in an attempt to break the ice, Rory confronted him at the bar and asked him to make her an “Upside-Down Tequila Slammer with a Twist.”
Although he was a bartender, Marty had no idea how to make this made-up drink. So he made it up. Which is what I did, too.
Clearly, I’m not a bartender or a mixologist. I did a bit of research and came up with a drink that’s pretty darn tasty and called it an Upside-Down Tequila Slammer with a Twist. I had to make some…adjustments, but I think it’s certainly festive enough to enjoy cuddled up on the couch while watching your childhood dreams come true.
The part that was especially tough about this recipe was the “Upside-Down” part. The drink itself has two whole ingredients, so it’s a bit of a let-down switching up the order you add them to your glass to make it “upside-down.” So I decided to put the liquids in first, and then adding the ice on top. It’s upside-down enough, right?
The Tequila Slammer part is super fun! Clearly, we’ll need tequila. Not too much, but enough to really play up that “slammed” part of the equation. I used about an ounce and a half of tequila when I first made this drink and WOAH. The second time I made this drink, I used about an ounce…still pretty woah. The third time I made this drink (the things I do for you…), I decreased it to a half ounce and I thought it was perfect. It still had a nice little zip, but it didn’t take away any flavor from our second ingredient: ginger beer. I used this brand, and it was delicious. And I’m convinced that ginger tastes better when Christmas is right around the corner. Win-win.
Next! The most difficult part, which isn’t really that difficult if you have more patience than I do: the Twist. Because I don’t go out and order alcoholic drinks often, I had no idea what a “twist” was. But! After a bit of research, I found out that it’s just a cute little garnish, which in this case, it made with a lime peel! If you wind the lime twist tight right before you drop it in your drink, it’ll release all of these delicious oils that will make your drink even more magical. Watching this how-to video was infinitely helpful for me to nail it.
I had the pleasure of participating in a super fun recipe round up inspired by the return of our favorite show. The best part? There’s something for everyone included! Vegans, vegetarians, and the I’ll-eat-anything-ians; you now have no excuse to do it up for the Gilmore girls premier!

I already have plans to watch the new episodes with a friend, and you better believe that this Upside-Down Tequila Slammer with a Twist will be making an appearance.
Upside-Down Tequila Slammer with a Twist
Prep: | Yield: serves 1 | Total: |
A refreshing cocktail that's perfect for the Gilmore girls premier! Naturally gluten free and easily made vegan.
You'll Need...
- 1 lime
- .5 - 1 oz. 100% agave silver tequila*
- 5 oz. ginger beer (make sure it's vegan if necessary!)
- crushed ice
Directions
- Prepare the lime: Slice off the ends of your lime. Run a bartender's spoon or a small knife in between the peel and the fruit on both sides until the peel is separated from the fruit. Make a slit down one of the sides of the peel and remove the fruit, keeping the peel in one piece. Roll up the peel like a jelly roll and cut thin strips so that you're left with nice little spirals, or "twists". Here's a great video that walks you through it.
- Pour your tequila into a 8-oz. glass, followed by the ginger beer. Fill the rest of the glass up with ice. Top with your lime twist.
Additional Notes
*Opt for 1 whole ounce of tequila if you're especially interested in the "Slammer" part of this drink
Recipe inspired by Absolut and Rory Gilmore.
psst. I’m not affiliated with Netflix or Gilmore girls in any way. I’m just really freakin’ excited for the premier. ?

SUCH a fun roundup! I just want to drink these the whole time I watch the episodes. I don’t know how I’m going to keep it together this week, while I’m watching it (spoiler: prob won’t keep it together and cry the whole time), or when I finish them. TEAM JESS FOREVER. Or team Rory-Is-An-Independent-Woman-Who-Don’t-Need-No-Man. I swear if Lorelai and Luke break up I will die. That’ll just be the end for me. Can you tell that I’m way to invested in this show hahaha! I follow the actor who plays Kirk on Instagram and he is basically Kirk in real life too, so funny. Maybe Paris will be pregnant!! That’d be pretty great. Ok this is turning into quite the novel and I’m definitely going to be messaging you while and after I watch the new episodes so we can freak out together <3

Ok – so many things. 1) Your photos are gorgeous! 2) ALL THE QUESTIONS! Can’t wait to find out the answers. 3) Just watched this episode and cannot wait to make your Upside Down Tequila Slammer with a Twist next week for the premier. 4) Literally laughed out loud when you said: “Clearly, we’ll need tequila. Not too much, but enough to really play up that “slammed” part of the equation.” YES – love it!

Oh man! The Gilmore Girls revival is SOOO GOOD!!! I’m up to the last one, and I’m so sad it’s almost done. I was so touched by the last song in the 3rd episode. Really emotional. I can’t wait to spend a little time going through this fun roundup! Gilmore Girls are HUGE in the knitting community, so it’s fun to see them showing up in the food community as well. Lovely post!
Alexa [fooduzzi.com] says
:) I’m so glad you liked out roundup! Gilmore Girls is just the BEST!
