We’re huge drinkers in my apartment.
No, not alcohol (although, we do love our red wine and prosecco). I’m talking liquid in general. Iced tea. Seltzer water. Lemonade. Smoothies. Arnold Palmers. Regular water. We love it all.
In fact, as I’m writing this, my roommate is sitting in the living with not one, not two, but three drinks in front of them. It’s possible we have a bit of a hydration problem.
I was an active kid, so hydration was always necessary. Milk, however, was never a huge part of my diet. I just wasn’t a fan of the weird texture or taste. We always had skim milk in our fridge, but I never had the urge to slurp up a big glass of the stuff…unless there was chocolate cake involved. Because, please son, milk is a necessity when chocolate cake is involved.
Once I started to transition to a plant-based diet however, I discovered the magnificent almond milk. I bought it from the store and started to use it in all sorts of recipes like overnight oats, chia seed pudding, and smoothies. I even started drinking it on its own, as I was quickly hooked on its nutty flavor and ultra creamy texture. I started experimenting even more, making my own almond milk…from scratch (side note: have you tried my Turmeric Date Almond Milk yet? GUYS…you need to)!
Making your own nut milk could not be more simple, nor more delicious. Homemade nut milk is one of my favorite kitchen staples…especially when the sweet flavors of Nutella are involved. Yes, dear reader, meet my Homemade Nutella Milk: five whole food ingredients, naturally sweetened, and unbelievably tasty. Can you handle this much deliciousness?!
Nutella: the world’s most delicious cocoa and hazelnut spread. While the regular Nutella may be full of refined ingredients, this Homemade Nutella Milk is jam-packed with natural, whole food goodness! We’re starting this recipe off with some raw hazelnuts and filtered water. While I don’t usually buy hazelnuts, it’s definitely a necessity for this Homemade Nutella Milk. Hazelnuts are super crunchy and have such a unique taste; therefore, don’t worry about buying a little extra. Believe me, you’ll need them again for another one of my recipes in just a few weeks ;).
We’ll also need some chocolate by way of unsweetened cocoa powder. I love dutch-processed cocoa, and if you’re more of a dark chocolate fan, feel free to go that route. I wanted to stay a little more traditional; ergo, I opted for the natural variety.
Last, we’ll need some sweetness. I added raw honey to my Homemade Nutella Milk, but feel free to use whatever liquid sweetener you desire. I also added a touch of pure vanilla extract for a little something extra.
This Homemade Nutella Milk is going to be your new liquid obsession. I can think of a million different uses for this stuff, but I think drinking it all by itself might just be the best way to enjoy it. Because, lets be serious: this Homemade Nutella Milk is basically liquefied Nutella. Yes, I’m giving you the gift of drinking Nutella.
Have. Mercy.
Homemade Nutella Milk
Prep: | Yield: 3 cups | Total: |
This Homemade Nutella Milk is made from five whole food ingredients, naturally sweetened, and unbelievably delicious!
You'll Need...
- 1 cup raw hazelnuts
- 3 cups filtered water
- 2 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 Tbsp. honey, maple syrup, or sweetener of choice
- dash pure vanilla extract
Directions
- Add all ingredients into a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.
- Line a colander with a cheese cloth or nut milk bag (I folded my cheese cloth over three times so my milk would be triple-strained). Place colander inside of a big bowl. Pour Homemade Nutella MIlk mixture into cheese cloth and strain. Allow to strain for a minute or two, then squeeze out any residual liquid from the mixture.
- Pour Homemade Nutella Milk into a glass jar and store in the fridge*. You can store the leftover hazelnut pulp in the fridge and use in smoothies or oatmeal, or you can just discard.
Additional Notes
*This Homemade Nutella Milk will separate in the fridge. Simply shake it up before using.

Evi, that is too funny! Kombucha…that’s something I’ve never tried. I want to, but something about it intimidates me! What’s your favorite brand?
Let me know if you try the Nutella Milk! It’s crazy delicious!
