You had to have known this was going to happen.
After making my creamy, dreamy Homemade Nutella Milk last week, did you really think I’d go without throwing it into oatmeal?
As I say in my About page, I truly feel like I’m an 80-year-old woman. I eat a big ol’ bowl of oaty goodness every single day for breakfast. I just love all the chewiness, warmth, and comfort a single bowl of oatmeal brings me in the morning. It truly is the little things in life.
I have many favorite ways of preparing my bowl-o-happiness in the mornings: Banana Bread Oats, Carrot Cake Overnight Oatmeal, Samoa Overnight Oatmeal, Coffee Cake Baked Oatmeal, Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal, Mounds Bar Oatmeal…the list goes on and on.
Because I’m currently drinking in my last summer vacation…like, ever…before I start my big-girl job, I always have time to make a leisurely breakfast on the stove. The measuring, the pouring, the stirring, the adding-the-ingredients-ing – I can take my sweet sweet time every single day.
Come July, this relaxing breakfast time will be a thing of the past. As I join the workforce, I just know that I’ll be pressed for time just getting ready for work that day, let alone whipping up a nutritious breakfast that will get me all ready to tackle the day.
All I can say is, “TGFBNOO” (thank goodness for Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal).
This Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal is my new breakfast obsession, and I know that you, dear reader, will love it, too. Because it’s prepared the night before, this Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal is the perfect choice for those crazy on-the-go mornings. My Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal is everything you want in a breakfast: quick, easy, filling, nutritious, and lip-smackingly delicious. Oh, and it’s filled with the sweet flavors of Nutella. You’re welcome. Let’s see how it’s done:
We’re starting this breakfast of champions off with some old fashioned rolled oats. I love rolled oats for their chewy texture and health benefits. With an impressive fiber and protein content, oats keep me full for hours, which is why they’re my #1 go-to breakfast choice! While I have many rolled oat recipes on the blog, overnight oats have a special place in my heart on my plate due to their convenience and texture. Allowing them to sit in the fridge allows them to soften and plump, making them the perfect consistency for some breakfast munchin’.
The “Nutella” flavor comes from my Homemade Nutella Milk recipe that I posted last week! As I mention in that post, homemade nut milk could not be more simple to make! All you need to do is place a few ingredients (like hazelnuts, water, cocoa powder, and honey) in a blender, blend, and strain until smooth! I promise you that you’ll never go back to that store bought stuff after trying a homemade nut milk! And a nut milk that tastes like Nutella? Who can pass that up?
Next, some chia seeds! It’s been a while since I’ve used the mighty chia, but I seriously love these little guys. They’re filled with protein and fiber, and because they have an uncanny ability to gel when introduced to liquid, they are the binder and thickener in this overnight oatmeal process! Gotta love the chia!
You’ll need some sweetness at this Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal party, and I suggest using a refined sugar-free variety like maple syrup or raw honey. You’ll add this to taste, as I know some can’t handle overly sweet breakfasts early in the morning. I’d say start with 1 tsp. and adjust from there!
After letting this mixture sit in the fridge overnight, you’ll be greeted with overnight oat magic! The oats will have softened and, with the help of the chia seeds, will have absorbed all of your Homemade Nutella Milk. All you’ll need to do the morning of your Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal consumption is to slice up a banana and layer it with your oat mixture! Boom – instant breakfast!
And if all of that Homemade Nutella Milk chocolatey goodness isn’t enough…
I’ll have a Homemade Nutella recipe coming to you soon. ;)
Ooohhhh yeeeesss. I adore this Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal! It’s perfectly filling and nutritious, and I love how quick and simple this recipe truly is. Imagine how much time you’ll save in the mornings now! You’ll be able to take your time in your shower! You’ll be able to fix your hair so beautifully! You’ll be able to sleep in!!!
I can’t think of a more perfect way to start your busy day than with this Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal!
Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal
Prep: | Yield: serves 1 | Total: |
This Banana Nutella Overnight Oatmeal is perfect for your busy on-the-go mornings! Filled with protein, fiber, and other nutrients, you can indulge this AM!
You'll Need...
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup Homemade Nutella Milk
- 1 Tbsp. chia seeds
- Sweetener (maple syrup, honey, stevia), to taste*
- 1 banana, sliced into coins
- Cocoa powder (optional, for topping)
Directions
- The night before: Place oats, Homemade Nutella Milk, and chia seeds in a bowl. Mix, then set in the fridge overnight to thicken.
- The day of devouring: Mix oats and add extra Homemade Nutella Milk to thin if necessary. Taste and add sweetener if desired, keeping in mind that the banana will add some sweetness. Heat mixture over the stove or keep cold if desired.
- Layer oats and banana coins in a small cup or mason jar. Top with additional cocoa powder if desired.
Additional Notes
*The oats themselves lose some of the milk's sweetness overnight. I recommend using at least 1 tsp. of sweetener.
