So I love making lists.
While it might be attributed to my addiction to office supplies, I think the true reason behind it is because I love the feeling I get when I finally cross something off that list.
the plant-based food blog
Being someone that follows a whole food, plant-based lifestyle, I’m used to people questioning, poking fun, and full-out gawking at my eating habits.
Take, for instance, my two week-long work orientation. We jet-setted to a land far away from Pittsburgh to live out of a suitcase for 14 straight days. While I definitely learned a lot, I sure did miss my bed, my boyfriend, and my food.
One thing that never got old, however, was sharing my food philosophy with others. No, I didn’t shove it down people’s throats, but when they asked why I was passing up the ground beef and big bowl of queso for lunch, I was happy to share my thoughts. Read More
We’re gettin’ nutty on Fooduzzi today, folks! Coconutty.
Dear readers, it’s true, I am a coconut lover through and through.
My addiction to coconut is fierce this time of year; I crave that tropical, rich flavor all.the.time.
While raw coconut is all fine and dandy, have you ever had the pleasure of sinking your teeth into some roasty toasty toasted coconut?! It’s takes the flavor of an already delicious thing to a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL. It. Is. Insane.
It’s very possible that I will ruin all un-toasted coconut dreams for you with this post. Frankly, #sorrynotsorry. Toasted coconut is ridiculously superior. It’s sweeter. It’s richer. It’s nuttier. It tastes more “coconutty.” It’s PERFECT. And guys, you’re gonna want it in, on, and around everything:Read More
I love Pittsburgh. I love food. I love that Pittsburgh has become a foodie town.
I love that, no matter what I’m hungry for, I can find a quality restaurant in the heart of the ‘Burgh dishing out kick-butt cuisine. In need of some salty chips and salsa with a margarita chaser? Verde is where it’s at. How about something a little funky and tropical? Try Kaya, one of my favorite restaurants of all-time.
But when I’m in the mood for something truly exceptional, something that I can split with a loved one on a special occasion, Altius has become my new go-to.
I was on a huge smoothie kick a few years ago. I’d gather my frozen fruit (always blueberries and banana), vegetables (spinach, carrots, what-have-yous), superfoods (I’m talkin’ to you, chia and flax seeds!), liquid (alwaysalwaysalways almond milk), and ice, and blend until it was super smooth. I’d dump my luscious mixture into a mason jar and be on my way to work in under a minute. Gotta love the convenience of a breakfast smoothie.
I love how filling and nutritionally dense smoothies can be, but sometimes I’m after something a little lighter, yet ultimately refreshing to keep me cool and nourished through the hot summer days.
Enter: juice.
I’ve loved apple juice and orange juice since I was a kid, but I never knew one could make juice all by themselves with just a few simple kitchen tools, not including an expensive juicer! And just imagine the flavor customization: carrot-ginger-lemon, pear-apple-spinach, cashew-cinnamon-coconut…the world is your juice oyster!
Oh, um…please don’t put oysters in your juice.Read More
Let’s talk about kitchen fears, shall we?
Let me start off by saying that I lovelovelove to bake. There’s nothing more rewarding for me than handing a finely-crafted sweet treat off to a unsuspecting friend or family member on a special occasion. Birthdays, holidays, events, random days of particular kindness – I’ll literally bake for anything.Read More
You had to have known this was going to happen.
After making my creamy, dreamy Homemade Nutella Milk last week, did you really think I’d go without throwing it into oatmeal?Read More
We’re huge drinkers in my apartment.
No, not alcohol (although, we do love our red wine and prosecco). I’m talking liquid in general. Iced tea. Seltzer water. Lemonade. Smoothies. Arnold Palmers. Regular water. We love it all.
In fact, as I’m writing this, my roommate is sitting in the living with not one, not two, but three drinks in front of them. It’s possible we have a bit of a hydration problem.
